Zaragoza

Image
We woke up the next morning, packed up, and drove to Zaragoza. After we saw the cathedral, we saw a (restored) moorish castle from the 11th century I believe. When we finished in Zaragoza, we headed to Madrid, where we saw the Plaza Mayor.  We also got churros and chocolate sauce before heading to our Air BnB for the night. We learned that we are not huge fans of these big cities.

Barcelona Continued

( TROY) I slept straight through the night, although Arden and Sawney didn't quite get the sleep they were hoping for. We woke up later than expected (10:00 or so) and went down for breakfast. We quickly realized that this country doesn't believe in breakfast either, as our "breakfast" at the hostel consisted of bread slices, ham and cheese, some watermelon slices, some OJ, and some milk. After eating not eating a real dinner, we were quite hungry. I realized that the lady at the front desk was staring at me after I had eaten my fourth watermelon slice, and decided to slow down. She also had to refill the orange juice pitcher on my behalf. I also ate 2 (tiny) muffins. I kept going a little longer due to the lack of food we had experienced, but stopped shy of actually not feeling hungry any more. Arden was a trooper though - he ate less than I did. Sawney was still asleep. Once finished, we woke her up (she had coffee and one small muffin) and headed to a mansion/...

ESPAÑA!

(ARDEN) And so our story begins anew, travelling to places we have never seen before, experiencing things that our party of three never have. This time, our story brings us across the Atlantic Ocean, to the illustrious lands of Spain. However, our party must first venture to the Miami Airport, where our flight originates. To get to Miami, we decided to take a train from Lakeland to Miami, which was the first time Sawney and Arden were on a full size passenger train. The train ride was an agonizing four and a half hour trip, stopping multiple times to let passengers both on and off. We finally arrived at the Miami train station, where we departed from the train and made our way to our AirBnB to sleep. We used an Uber to drive to the AirBnB, where people will become taxis, utilizing their own cars as transport. We had the blessing of getting an amazing driver, Alberto. He picked us up from the train station, helped us with our bags, and began to drive us. Alberto was incredibly nice, li...

Okay. So - to wrap things up for our US trip .... After it rained on us in Glacier, we decided to pack it up early and head to the next destination. We'd been on the road at that point for twenty something days and we were all ready to head toward home. We wanted to hit a few things along the way though, so we started toward South Dakota. We tried to see Devil's tower in Wyoming along the way, but the fog made it difficult to see. It wasn't extremely high on the priority list either, so we didn't wait around to try and see it. We Made it to Mt. Rushmore that evening, but couldn't see it due to fog. We headed back to Rapid city and stayed in a hotel. The next morning, we had our 5000 mile maintenance done on the Subaru at the local dealership (closer to 7000 miles) and then went back to Mt. Rushmore. The fog had cleared enough for us to see the monument (a lot smaller than we expected). After we left Mt. Rushmore, we realized there was a nail in a tire, and we had ...

Glacier National Park

Image
The original plan (as in, the plan when we left the house) was to go to glacier and backpack for five days there. When we got to Yellowstone and experienced lows of 25 degrees Fahrenheit, we realized that we were ill prepared for this experience. The temperature, combined with the fact that they now charge $7.00 per person per night to backpack (we can stay in a campground for that price, with showers and toilets), we decided backpacking was out of the question. We arrived at the glacier national park east entrance visitors center (From Grand Teton) to find out that the road to the sun (the only thing we really wanted to see) was closed until late June. Oh well. We slept at a hostel and decided we would drive to the west side in the morning and see what we could see. The next morning,  We saw one bear cub running across the road, and one glacier. We hiked approximately one mile, and then promptly left the park. Nothing too exciting. We camped outside the national ...
